Hoar Frost

1.18.10....contributed...Clouds lowering to bluff-top level Friday night through early Saturday morning produced a thick blanket of fog which then produced Hoar Frost on branches and other exposed surfaces. Hoar Frost is a deposit of interlocking ice crystals formed by direct sublimation on objects, usually those of small diameter and freely exposed to the air, such as tree branches. Hoar frost is similar to the process in which dew is formed, except that the temperature of the object which accumulates the frost must be below freezing.
