Few weeks ago i was cutting wood with Russell and i had a hell of a time getting my saw to cut.
Lets jump back a little,Michael took my saw without me knowing and had his boss buy a new chain for it,but when he brought it back and got his ass chewed out it had all the cutting edges knocked off.I sharpened the chain at least 6 or 7 times, then i took it to Oxford and helped Russell cut wood.It did ok but i his a nail in the tree and i sharpened the chain 3 or 4 times but i couldn;t get the damn thing to cut decent.
Last weekend i went over to a guy i work with and tried to cut a tree down but i couldn't even cut out a wedge.I used Daves saw and it was so sharp i almost had to hold the saw back it was cutting so well.Dave hit my chain with his file and said"no wonder it don't cut worth a shit, your chain is a safety chain"sure shit is .I took a flat file and cut alot of the rakers off,
I cut a few big blocks and hit another nail and screwed up my chain again so i went to the top of the tree and cut all the small stuff up.Took 3 tanks of gas to cut the top up and it really didn't have alot of limbs.
Today i put on my warn out chain ,hit it with the file and it cut 100 times better that the other chain.Today I made 17 big cuts on one tank of gas and i split it all.I got one more pickup load and should have one more left..
I guess what my story is getting at is if you plan on cutting wood, make sure you don't buy a safety chain saw chain.
