Working on the blazer

Daena came over yesterday and helped me set the timing and the lifters on Michael's blazer.I finished a few things up today and tried my luck on getting it to run.Took me alot of getting in and out of the blazer but i finally got it to run(sort of)Seems to have a miss and when i let off the gas it dies instantly.

I will have to look to see if i missed a air line and i will have to check the firing order to see if it set right.I think i have a valve that might be too tight.I get a poofing sound which could be an exhaust leak or a tight valve. Not too sure though.

I sure hope i have the motor fixed enough to run this time.I don't have alot of money into the blazer and if i keep having problems i am tempted to put a 350 in there.Too much motor for Michael but it's a good motor.

My first guess, ignition not timed right. Turn the distributor and/or borrow a timing light.

Second guess, vacuum leak. Check all the hoses and connections and make sure they are in the right places. Look the carb/throttle body over and see if there's some fitting that needs a hose hooked up to it.

Third guess, fouled spark plug. Maybe got some dirt or carbon across one of them or knocked the gap closed when you were putting them back in.

Any one of the above would make it miss and depending on which plug is fouled, could make it die when you let off the gas, besides a vacuum leak or ignition timing. Just the missing alone could make the exhaust have a poofing sound. I doubt if any of the valves are tight enough not to be closing. We didn't tighten them right down on the stud, so even if they are turned down farther than they are supposed to be, the oil in the lifters should compensate for it and still let the valve close.

After i type this post i got thinking of what i typed.

I wonder if i don't have it timed quite right yet and that would make it labor and possibly miss?Pretty much what you said is what i was thinking.Weird huh?

Tracie's dad has a timing light.Maybe i will see if i can use it.
